Sanders finally raises challenge to Clinton Foundation cronyism

What took you so long, Bernie? A mere 48 hours before the final primary on the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination process, Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) has finally challenged the insidious relationship between former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s State Department and the Clinton Foundation.

In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on State of the Union Sunday, Sanders said the millions of dollars raised from totalitarian regimes gives an appearance of a conflict of interest:

“You asked me about the Clinton Foundation. Do I have a problem when a sitting secretary of state and a foundation run by her husband collects many millions of dollars from foreign governments, governments which are dictatorships? You don’t have a lot of civil liberties, democratic rights in Saudi Arabia. You don’t have a lot of respect there for divergent, opposition points of view, for gay rights, for women’s rights. Yeah — do I have a problem with that? Yeah, I do.”

Ya think?

But, why now? Where was this challenge in February or March when it would have made a much bigger impact on the campaign?

And why didn’t Sanders raise the issue during the many debates he had with Clinton over the past several months? Not only would it have highlighted the corrupt arrangement for an audience of Democrat voters who have not seen much coverage of the details of Peter Schweizer’s Clinton Cash which first brought some of the most nefarious dealings of Team Clinton to light, but it would have also forced Ms. Clinton to directly respond to the challenges in a high-pressure setting – a setting that has not always favored the former Secretary of State:

Kudos also to Jake Tapper for raising the question so Sanders could respond, but one has to wonder where the media has been on this? In all the interviews and debates Sanders has engaged in over the past year, is this the first time a reporter has specifically asked Sanders if he has a problem with the Clinton Foundation/State Department shenanigans?

Sure seems like it. Why?

We’ll see if Sanders’ last minute challenge makes a difference in the California Primary Tuesday. The polls are showing a close race and, either way, Sanders has certainly given Clinton a run for her money this Spring. He’s presented a challenge that few pundits thought he could back when he first announced his candidacy.

Imagine what kind of challenge he could have mounted had he attacked Clinton’s obvious vulnerability over her untrustworthiness embodied in the Clinton Foundation corruption charges, not to mention that scandal involving her unsecured, unauthorized private email server scam that Sanders claimed he “didn’t give a damn about.”
