Here’s a rule of thumb for all those wannabe #Resistance bitter-enders out there: Don’t spit on the president’s kid. It doesn’t end well. Those with dreams of physically attacking a member of the Trump family should probably remember that they all have Secret Service protection and those guys mean business.
Eric Trump was in an upscale Chicago bar Tuesday evening and an employee, according to reporting, spit on him. Trump assumes it was a politically-motivated attack. He told the story to Breitbart News.
“It was purely a disgusting act by somebody who clearly has emotional problems,” Eric Trump told Breitbart News when reached by phone late Tuesday evening. “For a party that preaches tolerance, this once again demonstrates they have very little civility. When somebody is sick enough to resort to spitting on someone, it just emphasizes a sickness and desperation and the fact that we’re winning.
A local Chicago reporter tweeted about the story as it developed.

The bar is a James Beard award-winning establishment co-owned by Nick Kokonas. His name may be familiar from his offer to treat Clemson’s championship team to a celebration dinner after they were given fast food by President Trump during the government shutdown. That stunt generated publicity for his establishment.
Kokonas made headlines earlier this year when he invited Clemson University’s NCAA championship football team to “experience what an actual celebration dinner should be” after the team was given fast food during a trip to the White House, where the staff had been impacted by a government shutdown.
Chicago’s NBC affiliate described the attack and Chicago Police Department confirmed working with Secret Service with “a law enforcement matter”. Trump was described as “a federal protectee”. The employee, a female, was taken into custody.
The incident took place at around 8:30 p.m. at the Aviary, located at 955 W. Fulton Market. Sources said Eric Trump was a patron at the cocktail lounge when an employee approached and spit on him.
Chicago police responded to the scene, with CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeting just before 10:30 p.m. that officers were “assisting the United States Secret Service with a law enforcement matter,” adding that any further inquiries “regarding a federal protectee” should be directed to the Secret Service. The Secret Service declined to comment.

The employee was handcuffed and put into a police vehicle. Eric Trump declined to press charges against her and she was released.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Eric Trump had, with a group of people, come into Aviary, an upscale lounge in Chicago, and the young woman–an employee of the establishment–came right up to him and spit in his face. Per an eyewitness, she murmured inaudibly something that sounded like it was anti-Trump. Then Secret Service agents who were there protecting Eric Trump jumped into action and took the woman into custody. She was put in handcuffs and placed in a police paddy wagon, a source with knowledge said. Eric Trump decided not to press charges against the woman in the end, and she was released from police custody.
Trump should have pressed charges. This attack was further escalation of the public shunning of anyone within the Trump administration or a member of the Trump family. It is not ok. Disagreeing with a person’s politics does not entitle anyone to physically attack or dehumanize another human being. It is not acceptable to demand that others don’t show their faces in public. The attackers using ANTIFA tactics, even less violent actions like spitting or throwing a milkshake on someone, have to be stopped because they become emboldened to continue to do it again. The next time could be a more violent or drastic action.
The odd thing to me is that the woman chose Eric Trump in the first place. Of the three oldest Trump kids, he’s the one who is least in the public eye and creating headlines or Twitter outrage. I guess she was just taking a shot at the first Trump she had access to but I would be less surprised to see such a story that included Don, Jr. as the target. He’s the most active on social media and does lots of public appearances in support of his father. He thrives on the interaction.
