Former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and Rep. Adam Schiff both appeared on the View Thursday and Rice had a bit of advice for Schiff. “I appreciate what you’re doing for the country, but I really hope you can wrap it up,” Rice said. She added, “The country needs to get back to business, so my greatest hope is that this gets done.”
Condi went on to praise Robert Mueller in a way that suggested his investigation was the real game in town. The only surprise here is that Rice got a round of applause from the View audience for saying this. Here’s the clip:
Later in the same broadcast, Rep. Schiff was pressed by Megan McCain on his past claims that he’d seen evidence of collusion. “If you look at the facts that are already in the public domain, they’re pretty damning,” Schiff said. He then walked through the George Papadopoulos meeting with Russians and the Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Natalia Veselnitskaya.
Asked if any of that would result in charges, Schiff dodged. “Bob Mueller will make the decision whether there is proof beyond a reasonable doubt to indict and convict people,” Shiff said. He continued, “It is not his responsibility to tell the country what happened…It’s the job of the Congress to tell the American people what happened.”
I’m still waiting on Mueller to show us what he’s found, but it really sounds to me as if Schiff is preparing everyone for a big fat nothing-burger with extra cheese. After an entire year of collusion-mania led by Schiff himself, we’re now being told there may not be any charges (or any proof). Schiff even seems to be suggesting that Mueller won’t reveal all that he knows, meaning Democrats will still have room to speculate forever I guess. That seems like pretty thin gruel given the time and energy devoted to this so far.
Condi Rice is right. If there’s something here we all want to see it. But either way, it’s time to wrap this up and move on.
