Polls: NBC finds Clinton up nationally, Fox News has Trump ahead in battleground states

An NBC/WSJ poll published Wednesday afternoon finds Hillary Clinton up by six nationally among likely voters in a four-way race. From Politico:

In a four-way race that includes Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson and Green Party nominee Jill Stein, Clinton tops the field with 43 support. Trump follows at 37 percent, while Johnson and Stein trail at 9 percent and 3 percent, respectively.

In a head-to-head between the two major party nominees, Clinton’s lead expands to 7 percentage points, 48 percent to 41 percent. Four percent of respondents said they would not vote for president, while 3 percent said they were undecided.

That’s not as strong a result as Trump has been seeing in some recent polls but it is an improvement over last month. In August Hillary was leading Trump 43-34 among registered voters in a 4-way race. This month it’s 42-37, so Hillary is down 1 point and Trump is up 3 points. In a 2-way race Hillary was leading 47-38 last month. This month her lead is smaller at 48-41 (again, among registered voters).

If there’s good news for Trump in this poll it’s the honest and trustworthy numbers where he beats out Clinton 41% to 31 percent. However, on the question of who has the right temperament to be president, Clinton leads Trump 56 to twenty-three.

Fox News also has a new poll out which has some good news for Trump:

Donald Trump narrowly leads Hillary Clinton in the battleground states of Nevada, North Carolina, and Ohio.

That’s according to Fox News statewide likely voter polls conducted Sunday through Tuesday evenings.

Trump is helped by strong support from working-class white voters, while Clinton is hurt by a lackluster performance among younger voters and women.

Trump is up 43-40 in Nevada, 45-40 in North Carolina and 42-37 in Ohio. All of those are among likely voters and all are within the margin of error. The Real Clear Politics average of polls, which now includes these new Fox News polls, has Trump ahead by a narrow margin (1.8%-2.0%) in all three states.
