Pelosi suggests Democrats should win the House so nobody gets hurt

You guys, it’s not a mob! But… it might be if Democrats don’t take back the House on Tuesday. That appears to be the message that Nancy Pelosi was sending when she showed up on Stephen Colbert’s show. When discussing the Democrats’ chances for retaking the House majority (and possibly even the Senate), Colbert asked the former Speaker if there was any sign that the “political temperature” in the country might be lowering. Her response didn’t require much imagination to interpret. Sure, we can lower the temperature. But only if we get what we want. (Washington Examiner)

The California congresswoman made her pitch this week during an interview with CBS’ Stephen Colbert, who pointed to recent discussions about “lowering the temperature of political discourse.” He asked whether she had seen “evidence of that.”

“Well, I think when we win, you will see evidence of that,” Pelosi responded. “Because when we do win, we will have, as we open the new Congress, we will honor the vows of our founders, E pluribus unum, from many one. It’s OK to disagree in the marketplace of ideas, that’s exciting, but it is also important to find solutions that unify and not divide.”

In other words, let Democrats win and nobody gets hurt.

Let’s go to the video.

Sound familiar? If it does, you’re probably thinking of what Hillary Clinton said a couple of weeks ago.

“You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about,” Clinton told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Oct. 9. “That’s why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again.

The Democrats have really embraced that whole “No Justice No Peace” thing, eh? Only now, “justice” means letting them win elections. Give them what they want and then maybe we can talk about civility. If Donald Trump would just agree to resign they might even bake cookies for everyone.

So if they win the House, we can at least expect more civility and bipartisanship, right? Don’t believe it. Thomas Del Beccaro offers a preview of what you can expect when Pelosi takes back the gavel. Government shutdowns, endless investigations of Trump’s inner circle, the squelching of any competing investigations into conduct by the FBI and the DOJ. Oh… and impeachment. Yes, if the Democrats take back the House leadership, they’re going to impeach the President despite a lack of any clear high crimes or misdemeanors.

They want to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court with a liberal, and they currently lack the power to do it. They want — and must have — the presidency.

That means undermining Trump is their first priority. Impeachment proceedings will be their ultimate act of frustration. Never mind that there are no legal or factual grounds for such proceedings. They need to satisfy their base, not the truth.

The shorter version of what we can expect if the Democrats take back the house is simply shutdowns, as mentioned above. The progress of any new, significant legislation will be shut down. When it comes to funding, the entire government will likely be shut down at least once as the Democrats engage in brinksmanship to pump up their base for 2020. And as far as bipartisan cooperation or a cooling of rhetoric from politicians and cable news talking heads, the conversation will be shut down. The race for the White House in 2020 begins in earnest on Wednesday morning next week. The barrage of political advertisements might shut down for a few months, but that’s all the break we can expect.
