Dem candidate calls potential female GOP opponent "a child"

Here’s a lovely story from the Democrats, the party that brought you the women’s march, the fight for gender pay equality, claims of a Republican “war on women” and constant outrage at the current President’s assumed misogyny. In upstate New York’s 21st congressional district, colloquially known as the “North Country,” a Democrat running to replace GOP Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has repeatedly referred to his potential opponent as “a little girl.”

Steve Krieg, a school board member from the Plattsburgh area, seems to have no problem with the idea of being a sexist. In fact, during a candidate forum recently he came right out and admitted it without much in the way of an apology. He then doubled down, explaining why he felt that his representative in Congress was essentially “a child.” Here”s the video of the rather stunning event followed by a partial transcript. A New York Democrat running for Congress to unseat Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik (N.Y) said he “deserved” to be called a sexist during a candidate forum event on Wednesday while discussing his previous criticism of the incumbent.

“I have been accused of being a sexist for calling Elise a little girl, and I probably deserved to be called a sexist,” Steve Krieg said. “I think most of us, if we admit it, have some sexist in us, some of the racist in us. It’s something if we are decent people, we recognize in ourselves and we struggle with it all of our lives.”

Krieg, a member of the Plattsburgh City School Board, then turned to Stefanik, describing her as “a child” who cannot think for herself.

“But Elise, I recognize her—I’m not going to say a little girl. I recognize her as a child, and it has nothing to do with her age,” Krieg said. “I see her as a child because she’s a child. She thinks like a child. She has people set things up for her. She has people put their words in her mouth and she happily repeats them. And I think recognizing her, I would go after her in that way. And I apologize if that’s mean, but that’s how I would do it.”

First of all, just by way of full disclosure, Stefanik represents the district where our family has a camp in the Adirondacks and I have a number of relatives up there, some of whom worked tirelessly to help elect Ms. Stefanik during her first run for office. Also, she was kind enough to grant us an interview a couple of years ago which you can listen to here.

With that out of the way, can we deal with the sheer absurdity of this man’s candidacy, particularly when we’re talking about a Democrat? Elise Stefanik is the youngest woman ever elected to the United States Congress. She ran one heck of a campaign and has since worked tirelessly for her constituents, receiving high marks across the board. A former businesswoman in the private sector, she is accomplished and driven, providing an ideal role model for young women everywhere.

Having her potential Democratic opponent calling her “a little girl” is so far beyond the pale that it defies description. And since we constantly hear the parade of Democrats and liberal journalists demanding the Republicans step up and reject members of their own party when they go astray, where is Nancy Pelosi on this incident? Where is Hillary Clinton? At this point we’d even settle for hearing from Lena Dunham or any of the organizers of the Women’s March.

Do any of these champions of women’s rights have anything to say? After having achieved so much success in both the business world and public service by the age of 30, doesn’t Ms. Stefanik represent precisely the ideals what you want all young women to aspire to? But when she does, a man comes along to demean her and call her a little girl. There should be heads exploding on the Left right now, but for the most part we hear only silence.

Here… let me help you all out. It starts with, “There is no place in politics or American discourse for a cretin such as Steve Krieg…”

You can probably figure out the rest from there yourselves.
