I guess we need about a dozen "differently gendered" bathrooms in schools now

We’ve seen enough of these stories by now that, sadly, it might not even be worth mentioning, but there is a particularly troubling “transgender child bathroom” story out of Missouri this week which seems to demonstrate exactly how far out of control the situation has become. A seventeen year old boy at Hillsboro High School has determined that he will self-identify as a girl and go by the name of Lila Perry. Seventeen is pretty close to adult age and, in the current social climate, that’s probably not all that unusual anymore. The school had apparently been going to great lengths to accommodate Perry, even allowing him to use a unisex faculty bathroom. (Seriously? You have a unisex faculty bathroom in a high school?) But the situation came to a boil when he was enrolled in phys ed class and was determined to change in the girl’s locker room. At that point, the girls in the school seem to have decided that they’d had enough and a walkout ensued, supported by many of the parents. (Daily Mail)

Almost 200 high school students in Missouri walked out of their classes to protest one a transgender student in senior year being allowed in the girls’ bathroom.

Members of the Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, Missouri, ditched two hours of lessons to object to Lila Perry, a 17-year-old senior, being granted access to female bathrooms.

Perry, who started identifying as transgender earlier this year, was using the female facilities to change for gym classes, which upset many other girls at the school.

People carried “Girls Rights Matter” signs and expressed their discontent. It wasn’t just the parents.. the girls who needed to use the locker room had some rather blunt language which should have been obvious to all concerned. And some of their mothers voiced similar concerns.

One student, Sophie Beel, told local station Fox 2 St Louis: ‘I find it offensive because Lila has not went through any procedure to become female, putting on a dress and putting on a wig is not transgender to me’.

Tammy Sorden, a mother of a Hillsboro High student, said: ‘The girls have rights, and they shouldn’t have to share a bathroom with a boy.’

The responses from the students are justified, but also somewhat disconcerting at the same time. The fact that young Ms. Beel didn’t want to have a boy in the locker room while she was changing is completely understandable, but we have apparently gotten to the point where the media has conditioned kids to think that this would somehow be okay if “Lila” had already had surgery. Apparently this is now a topic of discussion among teens in 9th to 12th grade and I’m left wondering what to make of it beyond OH MY GOD ARE WE REALLY TALKING ABOUT APPROVING THE REMOVAL OF THE GENITALS OF A BOY WHO ISN’T OLD ENOUGH TO GET A TATTOO OR BUY A PACK OF CIGARETTES?!?!?

(Pause. Deep breath, Jazz. Pull it together.)

But with that said, Mrs. Sorden also brings up an important point and it involves the rights of all the parties involved, not just those seeking special treatment. Given our generous First Amendment rights, I’m sure this boy can call himself what he wishes, wear a dress, put on a wig… you name it. It’s a free country and if your parents approve, have a party. Nobody is protected from hearing your speech if it offends them. But at the same time, your “freedom” does not extend to the point where it directly impacts the privacy and security of others. What of all the girls in the school who don’t want a boy in the locker room while they change? The position of the left today seems to be that they have no rights and need to simply put up and shut up. (This applies to many, many issues that the SJW aare pushing, but you already know about them.)

The school was already providing a special uni-sex bathroom for this student. But that wasn’t good enough. He had to go and push the issue and try to force his way into the girls’ changing room. Seriously, people… enough is enough. This has gone far enough and it needs to stop.
