CPAC, Day 1: Marco Rubio, Rand Paul

SPRING BREAK! Well, you know, if you can call conservative politicians, leaders, reporters, and grassroots activists taking a few days to share their thoughts and visions for the Republican party, and more specifically this year, to review the dagger to the heart that was last November’s election — so, wash? Mary Katharine and I will be checking out the scene through the weekend, so be sure to check in for updates and insights.

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli had some fightin’ words about an American dream in which success is actually a good thing (“Imagine that!”) and the commonwealth’s gubernatorial race to kick off the speaking schedule this morning, followed by former Congressman Allen West, whose still-fiery personality was a morning jolt for the assembling audience: “There is nothing on this green earth that a liberal fears more than a black American who wants a better life and a smaller government.”

Later this afternoon, we’ll have Sen. Marco Rubio (do I detect a water-bottle joke in our future?) and Sen. Rand Paul, fresh off of his filibuster fame, as well as Texas Gov. Rick Perry and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott. I’ll embed the livestream and the schedule below, if you’d care to follow along and leave comments as things unfold. Let’s do this thing!
