The Society of Perpetual Outrageous Outrage’s most recent focus has fallen on anyone who mentions the Benghazi attack in a fundraising effort. The consensus determined that mentioning the attack that killed four Americans in the context of raising funds for political organizations was just unseemly, especially if Republicans who want answers on the entire arc of failure are doing the fundraising. That just proves, the SPOO argues, that the probe into Benghazi is just a political charade designed to boost the base.

By the same token, then, does fundraising off of Benghazi similarly discredit the administration’s motives in trying to shut down the investigation? Barack Obama spoke last night at a $10,000-a-plate DCCC fundraiser to urge donors to put Democrats back in charge — with an explicit plea to end the Benghazi probe Republicans have launched:

The price ranged from $10K to the soft-contribution limit of $32,4000:

Monday evening, President Obama had dinner with mega Democratic donors Jeff and Lora Drezner at their sprawling $5 million bungalow on five acres in Potomac, Md. The Drezners gave a combined $100,000 to candidates and political committees in the 2012 campaign cycle.

For the bargain price of $10,000 per person, or $32,400 per couple for VIP status, (that better be some spectacular filet) you could enjoy an “intimate dinner” with special guest Barack Obama, according to the invitation posted by the Sunlight Foundation.

This marked the fifth of Obama’s  six fundraisers for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee before the end of the quarter, according to a DCCC aide.

Actually, Obama was raising money off of ObamaCare, too. The former Senator expressed his exasperation over Congress exercising its oversight responsibilities in regard to executive branch incompetence and dishonesty:

Obama may regret his formulation that ObamaCare in particular doesn’t touch the “real concerns” of ordinary people. Premiums have spiked due to the mandates in ObamaCare, and the market disruption coming this fall as the employer mandate hits along with a new round of price hikes will almost certainly end up concerning the majority of Americans.

As for Benghazi not being “serious,” we will take that in due consideration of its source — who spent two weeks trying to convince everyone from the UN on down that it was nothing more than a spontaneous demonstration over a YouTube video that got out of hand. If we are to judge motives based on fundraising, then Obama’s attempt to hit up the Democratic Party’s richest donors to keep investigators off his back over Benghazi should go to the top of the SPOO agenda any time now.

I’ll just hold my breath over here until that happens.

Update: Actually, it’s Democratic donors who worry that Obama lacks seriousness:

Top Democratic donors say they are exasperated by a lack of leadership from the White House on policy and are questioning whether they should throw money into midterm elections they believe won’t change Washington.

In interviews with The Hill, the donors, who have been staunch Obama supporters since 2008, showed a frustration with the constant Beltway gridlock.

As some look to the promise of a 2016 presidential bid by Hillary Clinton, they express weariness with a White House that continually asks for money but has been unable to move anything in Washington since President Obama’s reelection.

“We’re already seeing that happen now when Democrats do have control of the Senate,” one donor said. “I think a lot of people think, ‘What’s really the point?’”

Or better yet, what difference at this point does it make?
