Video: Democrat's "War on Fox News" turns into hilarious rout; Update: Missed filing deadline?

Eric Cantor faces a challenge in November’s midterm election, but if his opponent ends up being Mike Dickinson, Cantor can worry about … well, almost anything else. Dickinson, a Democrat looking for the nomination in VA-07, has pledged to use his campaign to wage “war” on the Tea Party, the NRA, and Fox News. Greta van Susteren offered him a battle last night, and it didn’t take long for Dickinson to turn his war on Fox News into a rout. Via Twitchy, this is must-see TV:

Yes, you just heard a Congressional candidate being forced to admit he lied about his resumé on national television. Dickinson turned out to have no intellectual substance at all on his other arguments either, unable to square the reality of his own desire to tell it like it is with the right of Tea Party supporters to do the same. Greta van Susteren has a delightful time dismantling Dickinson and his “war,” and the only one who doesn’t seem to realize what a national joke he’d become is Dickinson himself. He tweeted this out afterward, apparently believing he’d scored a point or two in the interview:

Indeed. Dickinson agreed to appear again for another battle of wits with van Susteren in the future, and it may be fun to see whether he comes completely unarmed again.

Update: Mediaite discovers that Dickinson didn’t actually make the deadline to run for VA-07, at least not as a Democrat:

During his appearances, Fox labeled Dickinson as “(D-VA), Running For Congress.”

Just one problem with that: He’s not. At least not as a Democrat.

On Thursday morning, the Virginia 7th Congressional District Democratic Committee announced that it would cancel this year’s nominating convention, because no one had filed to run against incumbent Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

The filing deadline — Thursday, April 10th, at 5:00 p.m. — passed by without any forms submitted by Dickinson. A source tells Mediaite that he informed the nominating committee at “last minute” that he did not intend to file.

None of that was disclosed by Dickinson when he appeared on Fox News last night.

No, but his Twitter bio still states “Liberal Democrat campaigning for the nomination to unseat Eric Cantor in the 7th Congressional District of Virginia!”And, of course, this adds another layer of irony to a subsequent tweet:

At least most of them know how to fill out paperwork by deadline. (via Doug Mataconis)
