Last month, the House voted on legislation to overhaul the federal student loan programs, generating an alleged $87 billion in savings — the vast majority of which Democrats plan to spend on an array of new entitlement programs from pre-K through college. Included in the legislation is a little-noticed provision to spend half a billion dollars on “open online education” – in essence, the U.S. Department of Education paying some unknown entities of its choosing to develop online college courses and instructional materials. It’s not difficult to draw a line from this initiative to the federalization of college curriculum – an unprecedented trampling of academic freedom and independence. Learn more today!
