To think, if things had gone differently yesterday at the Court, we’d now be in day two of a glorious high-traffic easy-content ObamaCare online frenzy. Instead we’re watching YouTube vids trying to decipher whether a crowd was yelling “boo” or “Boo-urns” “Yoooouk.” Roberts had better atone by delivering on Thursday. Big time.

When all other content wells have run dry, it’s a comfort to know that Jay Carney will be there to say something untrue and keep the bloggy gears turning.

White House press secretary Jay Carney criticized press reports Tuesday that said donors in Boston booed the president when he made a joke about the Red Sox’s trade of popular third baseman Kevin Youkilis…

“There has been some really silly reporting about the president’s remarks regarding Kevin Youkilis last night. It is highly commendable in my view as a Red Sox fan that the president has always refused to pander on sports,” said Carney. “He is a White Sox fan, he owns his fandom of the White Sox. He proved that again last night.”

“Anyone who knows Boston, knows the Red Sox and anyone who was in that room last night knows that the preponderance of people shouting in response to what the president said about Kevin Youkilis were saying ‘Yoooook’ and not ‘Booo,’ for God’s sake,” Carney said.

No, actually, I’m pretty sure the preponderance of people there knew that they were booing, in part because Obama acknowledged that they were booing. That’s the only wrinkle that makes this clip interesting, in fact: Despite O conceding at the time that the crowd was hooting at him for teasing them about the Youkilis deal, Carney’s shill discipline is so strong that he’s willing to contradict his own boss in order to push the most flattering (albeit unrealistic) spin. He could have dismissed the media’s dumb questions about this by laughing it off and saying that O likes to have fun with the donors who’ve come to see him, but no. As soon as a reporter brought up the idea of the president being booed, Pavlov’s bell rang, Carney started to drool, and he lurched for the “of course the president wasn’t being booed!” spin. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz couldn’t have done it any better. I hope The One gave him a biscuit afterward.

He’s since backed off the nobody-was-booing claim a little but even now he can’t abandon it entirely. It’s hard out there for a flack. Exit question: Now that Youk-gate has been squared away, when is Obama’s campaign going to reimburse Boston for the security cost of last night’s fundraiser? One city official estimates it at $150-200,000.
