Ed Schultz off the air at MSNBC for a week for calling Laura Ingraham a "slut"; Video: Schultz apologizes

Via the Daily Caller, here’s the release from MSNBC.

If only he had called her a big mashed-up bag of meat with lipstick instead, everything would have been copacetic.

MSNBC management met with Ed Schultz this afternoon and accepted his offer to take one week of unpaid leave for the remarks he made yesterday on his radio program. Ed will address these remarks on his show tonight, and immediately following begin his leave. Remarks of this nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

He’s been on thin ice before and still they promoted him from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. after Olby left, so take that “will not be tolerated” language for what it’s worth. Even so, volunteering for a suspension to show contrition is smart damage control, especially since it sets him up for a disquisition on tonight’s show about the evils of sexism and how even the righteous, otherwise immaculate progressive mind can occasionally fall prey to them. That’ll polish his cred with his audience and restore him to the state of indignant moral superiority he needs to sit in judgment of the right. Exit quotation from Laura Ingraham: “I was surprised to learn that Ed Schultz actually hosted a radio show. Is it only available online?” Click the image to listen.

Update: Give him credit: His apology was forthright and seems heartfelt.
