Manufactured controversy of the day: Mitt confuses Osama and Obama

As the boss duly notes, it appears to be a Massachusetts thing. And a media thing. And a general public thing. And something Obama himself has jokingly lamented. But when the news is slow, it’s bona fide New York Times material.

Two things make this ever so slightly more interesting in Mitt’s case, which is to say still not at all interesting. One, it’s not the first time there’s been an Osama/Obama conflation in his presence. And two, unlike Teddy, Mitt didn’t recover from his malaprop. He went on confusing the two for the better part of a paragraph:

“I think that is a position which is not consistent with the fact,” Mr. Romney said. “Actually, just look at what Osam — uh — Barack Obama, said just yesterday. Barack Obama calling on radicals, jihadists of all different types, to come together in Iraq. That is the battlefield. That is the central place, he said. Come join us under one banner.”

So, big news. Anyone care? Then let’s move on.
