Sunday morning talking heads

Ukraine takes a backseat to domestic concerns this morning as the Sunday shows turn their focus to immigration. Many a nervous congressional Democrat will be watching as DHS chief Alejandro Mayorkas sits down to discuss the White House’s plan to end Title 42 without somehow turning the border into a complete clusterf**k. He’ll chat with “Meet the Press,” “State of the Union,” and “Fox News Sunday” about increasing expedited removal of migrants to try to prevent U.S. immigration facilities from being overwhelmed. He’ll also comment on the new “disinformation board” Biden is setting up under DHS’s auspices, about which little else need be said except this:

Also scheduled this morning is USAID chief Samantha Power, who I assume is tasked with discussing humanitarian aid to Ukraine as it struggles to cope with the brutality of the Russian army. The $33 billion aid package Biden proposed a few days ago is mostly military assistance but includes $3 billion for “food security funding, including medical supplies and support for Ukrainian refugees and to help stem the impact of the disrupted food supply chain.” Power will tell “This Week” and “Face the Nation” how expensive she expects the war to get for the U.S.

Finally, a Trump alumna disliked by both sides for different reasons is set to chat about her new book. Deborah Birx will try to explain to “Face the Nation” why she had plenty of criticism for Team Trump’s handling of COVID behind closed doors but resolutely refused to share those criticisms with the public while she was in the White House. The media is annoyed:

She’s talking now that she stands to benefit financially from doing so. Recently she called Trump’s infamous comments on using disinfectant to cleanse the body of COVID a “tragedy on many levels” which left her “paralyzed in that moment because it was so unexpected.” Hoo boy. The full line-up is at the AP.
