Sunday morning talking heads

A slow news week means a slate of old familiars on the guest list for the Sunday shows, and there are few older and more familiar than Nancy Pelosi. She’ll chat with “State of the Union” about the Ilhan-Omar-shaped thorn in her side, the fading prospects of passing a voting-rights bill in the Senate, and what the plan is in the House for investigating the insurrection now that the January 6 commission is dead.

The top Republican scheduled is Susan Collins, who’ll talk to “Face the Nation” about the Senate’s Gang of 10 that may — or may not — have a deal on infrastructure that can make it through the chamber. Five Republicans are part of that “gang”; who are the other five who’ll vote for the deal, allowing it to avoid a filibuster? Collins will share her thoughts on that and on whether she’d be willing to support any sort of compromise on election reform, starting with the John Lewis Voting Rights Act that Joe Manchin is working on.

Finally, if you haven’t been watching Scott Gottlieb’s weekly appearances on “Face the Nation,” give him a shot today. He’s consistently one of the clearest and most sober expert commentators on the pandemic and notably not prone to hypercaution about relaxing pandemic restrictions. He’ll discuss the spread of the B.1.617 Indian variant around the world and the findings about rare cases of heart inflammation in young adults after vaccination. The full line-up is at the LA Times.
