The angel on my shoulder is whispering, “This isn’t news. A politician’s love life matters only to the extent that it affects their duties or involves a crime.” And the devil on my shoulder is whispering, “Ignore that dick. Lefties would blog the hell out of this if it were Ted Cruz and you know it.”
You win again, Satan!
I’ve gotta say, an Ilhan Omar sex scandal is a pretty zany plot line even by the standards of the writers of the “President Trump” reality show we’re all now living in. Silver lining, though: If you were worried that Omar was shacked up with her brother, you may now rest easy.
Dr. Beth Jordan Mynett says her cheating spouse, Tim Mynett, told her in April that he was having an affair with the Somali-born US representative and that he even made a “shocking declaration of love” for the Minnesota congresswoman before he ditched his wife, alleges the filing, submitted in DC Superior Court on Tuesday…
“[D]ays prior to Defendant’s devastating and shocking declaration of love for Rep. Omar and admission of their affair, he and Rep. Omar took the parties’ son to dinner in order to formally meet for the first time at the family’s favorite neighborhood restaurant while Plaintiff was out of town,” the papers state…
Beth Mynett added in the filing that the most concerning thing about the jaunt was her hubby’s decision to “put his son in harm’s way” by taking him out in public with Omar, “who at that time garnered a plethora of media attention along with death threats.”
Is this a scandal or is it a scandal? Maybe it’s just a scandal. The Daily Mail reported a few weeks ago that Omar and Mynett had been seen holding hands as far back as March, at a “secluded Italian restaurant” outside Los Angeles. Beth Mynett’s divorce filing claims that she and her husband separated in early April. Maybe it’s nothing more complicated than an affair, albeit a destructive one given the consequences to their two families.
But it’s also possible that it’s a scandal: The Post notes that Omar’s campaign has paid Mynett’s firm roughly $230,000 since 2018 for “fundraising consulting, digital communications, internet advertising and travel expenses.” Not only that, the Daily Mail claims that the payments started flowing just one month after Mynett launched the firm last year. Mrs. Mynett’s divorce filing even alleges that “Defendant’s more recent travel and long work hours now appear to be more related to his affair with Rep. Omar than with his actual work commitments.” Were those payments from her campaign really for consulting or was this Omar showering her new boyfriend with cash, a classic Washington case of sh*tting where one eats, to borrow a phrase?
The old conventional wisdom: Ilhan Omar must do more to assimilate into American culture. The new conventional wisdom: Ilhan Omar has assimilated into American culture perhaps a bit too much.
Siraj Hashmi raises an interesting point here.
Additionally, it is considered forbidden for Muslim women to date/marry outside the faith, meanwhile, Muslim men are permitted to.

It’d be, uh, really something if Omar’s extramarital dalliance ended up as a bigger political liability for her than multiple instances of her pushing anti-semitic tropes about U.S. policy towards Israel. Certainly it won’t be a liability on the left, though. In fact, I can already feel the “Ilhan Omar is striking a blow for equality by proving that women politicians can have sordid personal scandals too” hot takes being written.
They’re out there, simmering. Just wait.
Let this serve as formal notice that all other news is canceled until right-wing America has made sufficient hay of this story. Speaking of which, your exit question: When will Trump tweet about it? There’s nothing yet as I write this at 2 p.m. ET but surely he’ll chime in before dinner. He’s a stickler about marital fidelity, you know.
