To cleanse the palate, Becket Adams calls this “the cringiest bit of #Resistance fan fiction produced since Jan. 2017.”
It’s pretty bad. The most fun I had watching it was during the weakest part of the clip, when the Democratic candidates show up to do the can-can (groan). Pausing it and trying to identify everyone by their cartoon likeness is the closest you’ll get to enjoyment here.
And needless to say, the kid-gloves treatment for the Squad will grate on any right-wing viewer. No one expects a crunching hit on progressives from the writers of “The Simpsons” but it would have been easy to stick in a line goofing on the group’s extreme leftism, just to give Republicans in the audience something to smirk at. No dice. The point of Resistance comedy is resistance, not comedy. You take a side and you stick to it, damn it.
I’ll say this in their defense, though, for old times’ sake: At least there’s a *concept* here, a parody of “West Side Story.” It’s not Colbert or Sam Bee sputtering “can you believe this a**hole?” for 15 minutes. It’s more ambitious than that. It aspires to comedy, at least.
It’s just the execution… “This is my natural hair-ica”? Hoo boy.
By the way, feel free to pause the vid during the can-can and check my work: Gabbard, Ryan, Bullock, Buttigieg, Williamson, Gillibrand, Delaney, Castro, Hickenlooper (RIP), Harris, Biden, Sanders, Warren, Booker, O’Rourke, Yang, De Blasio, Klobuchar. Right?
