Jerry Brown on Trump: Something's got to happen to this guy, if we don't get rid of him he'll wreck the world

Nothing much to see here, just the governor of California sounding like a mob boss in his desire to take out the president.

“We never had a president who was engaged in this kind of behavior,” Brown said. “I mean he’s not telling the truth; he keeps changing his mind; he’s sabotaging the world order in many respects.”

Brown added: “It’s unprecedented, it’s dangerous, and hopefully this election is going to send a strong message to the country; the Democrats will win…something’s got to happen to this guy, because if we don’t get rid of him, he’s going to undermine America and even the world.”

Impeachment, he means impeachment — I think? The election will move the ball in that direction if Democrats retake the House but there’s no way they’re “getting rid” of Trump before 2020 needing 67 Senate votes to do so. In which case … what else does he have in mind?

Oh, right, right. Well, that option’s almost certainly not happening either. Get used to the idea of 28 more months of wacky, self-destructive tweets. Which reminds me:

President Donald Trump is privately lashing out at one of his top allies, Ron DeSantis, angrily accusing the Florida Republican gubernatorial nominee of publicly betraying him.

The president has told close associates in recent days that he views DeSantis — who won his Aug. 28 GOP primary thanks to Trump’s strong support — as profoundly disloyal for distancing himself from the president’s assertion that the Hurricane Maria death toll was inflated by Democrats for political purposes

One person close to the president described the situation as a “divorce.” At the moment, Trump has no plans to travel to Florida to campaign for DeSantis in the November general election, according to two GOP officials familiar with the president’s schedule.

DeSantis denied any distance between him and POTUS this morning, but what else can he say? He spent the entire primary campaigning as America’s biggest MAGA groupie and it paid off with multiple endorsements from the presidential Twitter account. To have Trump publicly pissed at him now would risk alienating Trump supporters in Florida, which DeSantis can’t afford to do when he’s already trailing Democrat Andrew Gillum in multiple polls. His only move is to insist that everything’s hunky dory between him and the president. Left unsaid is that Trump must have some form of undiagnosed brain damage to believe that the smart play by DeSantis after the mess he made with his Puerto Rico comments was to side with Trump instead of keeping his distance. Many thousands of Puerto Ricans moved to Florida after last year’s hurricanes and are now eligible to vote there. DeSantis was merely protecting himself among those voters by not backing up the president. Trump would rather lose the governor’s seat in a key state in the name of having his allies stand with him than win if it means being out on a limb by himself over the Maria death toll.

As for the prospects of a Democratic takeover this fall, Gabriel Sherman claims that POTUS is already preparing. Exit quotation from a source who supposedly met with Trump in the White House last week: “’This is the election about Ryan and McConnell—it’s about those guys,’ Trump said. Trump referred to his 2020 campaign as ‘the real election.’ ‘It’s pure Trump. He has to come up with a way he’s not responsible if Republicans lose,’ a former West Wing staffer said.”
