Tomorrow’s headline: “Kelly fired, replaced as chief of staff by Anthony Scaramucci.”

I’m surprised to see that Kelly has enemies who hate him enough that they’d pee in the punchbowl on his first day by leaking this. To CNN, no less.

New White House chief of staff John Kelly was so upset with how President Donald Trump handled the firing of FBI Director James Comey that Kelly called Comey afterward and said he was considering resigning, according to two sources familiar with a conversation between Kelly and Comey…

Comey, who took Kelly’s call while traveling back from Los Angeles to Washington, responded to Kelly by telling him not to resign, one of the sources said.

The sources said Comey and Kelly are not close friends but that they had a professional relationship and a deep mutual respect for each other.

Right, right — it’s not Kelly’s enemies who leaked this, probably, but Trump’s enemies on Team Comey. They’re looking to humiliate the president a few hours after he formally welcomed Kelly to the West Wing by telling the public that Kelly was enraged by the most controversial personnel move Trump has made. In so doing, they just made Kelly’s life in the White House harder. Why risk hobbling him in Trump’s eyes, knowing that Jeff Sessions is still paying for a public disagreement he had with the president on Russiagate four months after the fact? If Team Comey is happy to see someone they rightly respect managing the president’s agenda now, this is a dumb way to show it.

The timing of that photo vis-a-vis Mooch’s firing today is interesting. Did he already know the axe was coming down when Trump and Kelly held their photo op this morning?
Scaramucci doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who’d attend Kelly’s introduction as a show of team spirit knowing he was about to be humiliated publicly. He had plans at work today too: Per Politico, he was expected to announce his new White House communications team this afternoon. I can’t believe Trump or Kelly would have taken the risk of telling Scaramucci what was coming before the Oval Office presser, given what a loose cannon the guy is. He might have thrown a fit right there in front of the cameras. They broke the news shortly after the media had left, I’d bet.

Exit question: Who’s next? I’ve always thought Trump would be better off replacing Jared and Ivanka with Michael Cera and Jennifer Lawrence.
