To cleanse the palate, it may have been Trump’s day but it’s Dubya who gets the best lines here. Well, Dubya and Mike Pence, but it’s to be expected that the VP would be treated as comic relief. That’s basically the job of the vice presidency.
Trump’s inauguration speech served him well, according to a new poll from Morning Consult. Before the inaugural his favorable rating was at 46/48; afterward it was 49/44, a net gain of seven points. A majority of 55 percent said the speech was better than expected and fully 65 percent said they viewed his “America First” message positively, specifically when he said, “From this moment on, it’s going to be America first. Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs, will be made to benefit American workers and American families.” If he ever stops grumbling about crowd size and voter fraud, he’s got something to build on here.
