Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

It’s Speakerpalooza this morning on the Sunday shows, with many important players — but not the most important — set to chat about the GOP’s new leadership vacuum. No fewer than four members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus are booked to discuss the race and whether they’d be open to Paul Ryan taking the gavel. Caucus chairman Jim Jordan will be on “Fox News Sunday”; Mick Mulvaney will be on “Face the Nation”; Raul Labrador will be on “State of the Union” along with Boehner/Ryan ally Tom Cole; and Dave Brat, the man who ended Eric Cantor’s dreams of being Speaker, will be on “Meet the Press” opposite de facto Boehner spokesman Charlie Dent, who’s been critical of the growing influence of House conservatives over leadership. Jason Chaffetz will also be interviewed this morning on “This Week” to address whether he’ll stay in the race if Ryan decides to pass. A united front by Freedom Caucus members against Ryan might itself be enough to convince him not to run, realizing that he’ll face the same difficulty uniting the caucus that Kevin McCarthy would have. If Jordan et al. want to push Ryan out, this is their opportunity to do so.

Otherwise, it’s standard 2016ers this morning. Bobby Jindal is booked on “This Week,” Martin O’Malley will sit down with “State of the Union” to tear Hillary to shreds over her flip-flop on TPP, and both Donald Trump and Ben Carson will chat with John Dickerson on “Face the Nation.” Expect lots of questions for Carson about Nazi analogies because that’s what the media’s into this week, I guess. The full line-up is at the AP.
