Video: The last 50 yards

A few days old but worth watching if you haven’t seen it yet. To cleanse the palate, the soldier who’s struggling to walk is Capt. Sarah Cudd, seen here in the final few moments of her attempt to earn the Army’s Expert Field Medical Badge last month at Fort Dix. The task: Complete a 12-mile march with a heavy pack over rough terrain — in three hours. Most Americans, including me, probably couldn’t do four miles an hour over even terrain with nothing to carry. As it is, per WaPo, 75 percent of the soldiers who try to earn the EFMB end up failing. The day Cudd attempted it, the failure rate was 80 percent.

She really does look like she’s down for the count when she keels over the second time.

She made it with almost 15 minutes to spare.
