Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

Behold the Hillary “silence strategy” in action: Not a single Clinton shill is booked for the Sunday shows as I write this on Saturday morning. She rolled out Lanny Davis and James Carville last week to do damage control after her own terrible news conference, but all that led to was more damage. Now they’re in “hunker down and wait for the media to get bored” mode. The media’s not bored yet, though, per Trey Gowdy being booked as the lead guest on “Meet the Press” and “Fox News Sunday.” Gowdy’s in a tough spot himself at the moment. If he goes slow on investigating Hillary’s e-mails, he opens himself to more grumbling on the right. If he goes fast, the press will roll out the tried-and-true “are Republicans overreaching?” narrative. (MSNBC’s ahead of the game on that, naturally.) If he and his staff have found anything new and interesting in the e-mails they already have, he’s most likely to reveal it now. Stay tuned.

If you’re tired of Hillary drama, Tom Cotton will be on “Face the Nation” to answer accusations that he somehow blew up the Iran negotiations even though everyone acknowledges that his letter didn’t tell the mullahs anything they didn’t already know. Also, Mitch McConnell will appear on “State of the Union” to explain how congressional Republicans are one more crushing defeat away from total victory. The full line-up is at the AP.
