I thought for sure that the Memorial Day weekend Sunday shows would be devoted to a hard look at the war in Afghanistan, especially in light of the coalition death toll having just reached 3,000. Nope. Panetta will appear briefly on ABC and there are a few military guests slated for CNN, but otherwise it’s the usual campaign dreck across the board. Proof positive, I guess, of how little interest the public still has in the war. Or rather, how little interest the network news departments think they have.
The big campaign “get” this week is Newt, who’ll be on NBC to answer the thousandth iteration of questions about whether he thinks the Bain attacks will work for Obama even though they didn’t work for him. Spoiler alert: No. The line-up via WaPo:
