"Ricky Hollywood" saga turning out exactly as expected

Gotta blog it. We were there when he rose to stardom at the 2008 convention by putting on a tie and looking uncomfortable. We were with him through the glory years, when he conquered Hollywood by appearing in a random music video and being shunned at parties. We stuck with him through the tough times, when his favorable rating back home sunk so low that he briefly became the only man in America capable of losing to John Edwards in an election. And now we’re here for the final chapter. Or rather, the near-final chapter: I think Ace is right that the next step will be to reclaim virtue. For a while.

Any sympathy for a young guy who got famous overnight and wasn’t prepared to deal with it? C’mon. He may be a backstabber and, allegedly, prone to shirking his financial obligations, and yeah, he might have foolishly blown tons of money on frivolous nonsense. But that doesn’t make him irredeemable. It makes him qualified to serve in Congress.

Bristol Palin’s baby-daddy, Levi Johnston, is now penniless and living in his mother’s Alaska home, a source tells Us Weekly.

“Levi made more than $1 million and squandered it on guns, boats and four-wheelers,” the source says of Playgirl’s winter 2010 cover model, 22.

The cash certainly didn’t go to Palin, 21, for their 3-year-old, Tripp. “Levi hasn’t paid child support in nearly two years,” says another insider. “And he has little contact with Tripp.”

Meanwhile, the onetime mayoral hopeful is expecting a daughter with girlfriend Sunny Oglesby. (They told Inside Edition they plan to name her Breeze Beretta, after the gun.) Says the first source, “Levi is confused about his life.”

How on earth did Johnston make more than a million dollars? He was in Playgirl and that commercial for pistachios, and he did that music video and … what else? It can’t be the book, which is currently #228,226 on the Amazon bestseller list less than a year after publication. Have we now reached the point culturally where fame can be monetized for seven figures even when it’s built on no discernible skill or talent of any kind? Exit answer: Yes.
