To cleanse the palate. Last week, the Today show was covering Navy SEALs breaking into Osama Bin Laden’s compound and shooting him in the face. This week they’re covering this. The news cycle is a fickle mistress, my friends.

Here’s the Facebook page, which stands — no joke — at 143,000+ fans and counting. Connecticut’s biggest newspaper has already weighed in with an editorial in his favor. I figure he’s one NYT/WaPo puff piece away from galvanizing national momentum that’s every bit as formidable as, say, the Coffee Party’s. There’s just one thing I can’t figure out: Was his prom proposal the act of an alpha male or a beta? It seems distinctly, shall we say, Dobler-esque, which would place it in the latter category. But c’mon — it took guts, and was obviously the handiwork of a man who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to risk rejection in front of the world. Besides, true beta males don’t go to their high-school proms; they go to … this. Don’t ask me how I know that. The less said, the better.
