Bad news: Kathleen Parker allegedly walks off set of "Parker/Spitzer"

Three possibilities. One: It’s all true. Two: It’s a lie planted by CNN brass who are upset about the show’s horrific ratings and looking for a pretext to dump her. Three: It’s a lie fed to the Post by righty bloggers who are desperate for content and who know only too well that their readers will revel in the thought of KP throwing an ego-driven fit.

Which one is it? I’ll never tell.

Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker actually stormed off the set of the “Parker Spitzer” show during a pre-taping a few weeks ago — furious that her co-host is continually allowed to take charge of their nightly CNN chat-fest, the insiders said.

Although still fuming, Parker did return to wrap up the segment, they said.

But she’s angry that the show’s producers are allegedly doing nothing to play up her strengths on the ailing show, the sources said…

While Parker — a conservative, nationally syndicated newspaper journalist — is widely respected, she’s no TV personality, critics said.

“Her weaknesses are felt internally,” a source said.

What exactly are “her strengths” as a television host? She’s a columnist who specializes in squishy can’t-we-all-just-get-along centrism. On what planet is that a recipe for good TV? As S.E. Cupp said when the show debuted, “If there was a point to her presence, I missed it entirely. While Spitzer was stealing the show, she was offering mealy-mouthed opinions and lazy talking points that you’d more expect to see on the E! network than CNN.” The point of her presence, I take it, is that CNN (a) wanted a contrast with the “angry alpha male” template that O’Reilly and Olby have set for 8 p.m. on cable and (b) worried about the heat they’d take for employing Client Number Nine and needed a woman on the air with him to blunt the criticism. Rather than walking off the set, she should learn to groove on it. Be the Colmes to his Hannity, the Qui Gon to his Obi Wan. No shame in that game, KP!

Here’s a recent segment from which Parker was conspicuously absent. Hmmmm. I think I’ve said it before, but let me repeat it in case not: There’s only one person who could get me to watch that show by co-hosting with Spitz. Dude, imagine it. Imagine it.
