Anthony Weiner: I know Alan Grayson's crazy but please vote for him

Via David Freddoso. I assume Dan Webster’s campaign is already hard at work turning this into an attack ad, but in case not, let me supply them with the quote they’ll need. Politico, Oct. 26, 2009:

Republicans and Democrats slammed Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) for calling Linda Robertson, an adviser to Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, a “K Street whore” in a month-old radio interview that circulated on Capitol Hill Monday night…

The remarks are the latest to surface in a string of controversial statements by Grayson, who said on the Alex Jones radio show that he believes Robertson, a former Enron lobbyist, is not qualified to pass judgment on intricate financial matters.

It’s clear that his colleagues’ opinion of him has suffered.

“Is this news to you that this guy’s one fry short of a Happy Meal?” asked Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.)

Weiner apologized the next day, but I doubt “Taliban Dan” has to worry much about Grayson taking umbrage at unfairness if he forgets to mention that. As for this spot, why America’s worst politician would resort to featuring a guy in his ads who once famously dumped on him is beyond me. Maybe he was hoping that people wouldn’t remember the “happy meal” quote (sorry, AG!) or, just maybe, he couldn’t find any other Democrats at this point willing to support him publicly. I doubt the latter theory is true, though, as much as we all might wish it was; in the interest of holding the House, the party appears to be fully united behind this tool. How united? Read this and weep, my friends.
