Oh my: Michelle Obama electioneering in polling place?

When Drudge puts up the red font — with italics, no less — we’re almost obliged to blog it, aren’t we?

I’m … outrageously outraged?

After finishing at the machine, Obama went back to the desk and handed in her voting key.

She let voters including electrician Dennis Campbell, 56, take some photos.

“She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband’s agenda going,” Campbell said.

According to a pool reporter from the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES at the scene, the conversation took place IN the voting center not far from the booths…

A top Ilinois State Board of Elections official tells the DRUDGE REPORT how Mrs. Obama may have simply been ignorant of the law and thus violated it unintentionally.

“You kind of have to drop the standard for the first lady, right?” the official explained late Thursday. “I mean, she’s pretty well liked and probably doesn’t know what she’s doing.”

Illinois law prohibits electioneering within 100 feet of a polling place. Two points, though. One: Did the Sun-Times pool report really say that FLOTUS was pushing The One’s agenda inside the polling place? She was posing for cell photos while voting, but presumably any celebrity’s safe to do that. As for the exchange with Dennis Campbell, read the Sun-Times report for yourself. It’s unclear where the two of them were, precisely, when they were chatting.

Two: The Chicago Tribune also covered her visit to the polling place. Quote:

Clutching a blue folder, Obama presented her credentials to election officials before being led to the polling station. Asked if she was familiar with touch-screen voting, Obama nodded and then spent about six minutes casting her ballot.

Obama abided by election laws that prohibit electioneering within 100 feet of a polling place.

She did pose for pictures and told one voter: “Make sure you get everybody out there voting. This one counts, as much as the other one.”

Gibbsy was asked about it today and didn’t know what happened, but naturally he ended up laughing it off regardless. You can watch that here. And now that I’ve been a buzzkill on the big gotcha of the day, I’m going to try to redeem myself with a little mood-builder for tonight’s armageddon/debate in Nevada. The open thread is on its way, I promise. For now, just groove on this.
