I’m tempted to call this something that the staff of “Reason” might have come up with, except that if “Reason” had written it, it might have been funny. No matter: Right-wing SNL sketches are a rare enough species that they’re worth displaying even when the quality’s as low as it is here. Mary Katharine and Ace are citing it as evidence that the culture’s finally cluing in to what’s responsible for state budget crises and the looming pension tsunami, but I’m not so sure. The infamous bailout sketch from a few years ago was supposed to portend the same thing and that went nowhere. A likelier explanation is that they needed to kill seven minutes of airtime and asked conservative-ish staff writer Jim Downey to whip something up quick. I’ll bet it took him less time than that to write this.
