New Democratic attack ad: Hey, Doug Hoffman's rich

Clear evidence of who the Dems are really worried about in NY-23, brought to you by a party that now represents most of the country’s richest districts and which you’ll find here wringing its hands about debt while its congressional leaders are busy crafting the federal boondoggle to end all boondoggles. Kudos on not letting shame stand in the way of victory, guys. What’s next? Attack ads against Snowe and Collins for supporting the stimulus?

Speaking of which, guess who turned up at a Scozzafava rally over the weekend. She’s a dastardly RINO, you say? Tell it to the NRCC, which is prepared to shower Team Dede with another $300,000 in cash:

Two party officials tell POLITICO that the NRCC will continue to air TV ads propping up Scozzafava in the days leading up to the Nov. 3 contest and plans to keep
up a near relentless barrage of press releases slamming Hoffman…

The NRCC plans to spend between $200,000 and $300,000 on TV ads in the final week-and-a-half of the campaign. The ads will focus on Owens and Scozzafava and will not mention Hoffman…

[A GOP] official also noted that, as a Republican, Scozzafava would have a far larger base of support to tap into. As of April 1, voter registration in the district was 43 percent Republican, 31 percent Democrat and just 1 percent Conservative Party.

“I have yet to see a poll that shows a path to victory for the Conservative,” the official said. “They have no base.”

Conservatives have no base … among registered Republicans? Or does this unnamed idiot seriously believe Republicans are unwilling to cross over and vote third-party if the other options are two de facto Democrats, especially with names as big as Palin urging them to do so?

Actually, there is a viable line of attack raised in that Politico piece: Hoffman’s from outside the district, which not only leaves him open to carpetbagger attacks but which makes his apparent ignorance of local issues that much more potentially damaging. So why didn’t the Dems hit him on that instead of on this dopey class-warfare point?
