The obligatory "Jimmy Carter says McCain's milking his POW experience" post; Update: Obama camp to "milk" Biden's son's Iraq experience?

Having accused him of this myself just a few days ago, I’m in no position to throw stones. But enough people are e-mailing the link that I guess you guys want to talk about it, so here you go.

When did this site become the Jimmy Carter defense fund?

Former president Jimmy Carter called Republican presidential candidate John McCain a “distinguished Naval officer,” but said the Arizona senator has been “milking every possible drop of advantage” from his time served as a prisoner of war in Vietnam…

“John McCain was able to weave in his experience in a Vietnam prison camp, no matter what the question was,” said Carter, a 7-year Naval officer who served aboard submarines. “It’s much better than talking about how he’s changed his total character between being a senator, a kind of a maverick at the time, and his acquiescence in the last few months with every kind of lobbyist pressure that the right wing Republicans have presented to him.”

While we’re on the subject of milking military service for advantage, check out the beginning of his speech at the convention four years ago. No word in the USA Today piece, unfortunately, on whether the meme about McCain’s wealth has been beaten deep enough into the ground yet by the left to qualify for “milking” status, but he does helpfully note that if Obama loses a close race it’s because of racism. Exit question: What if Obama wins a close race?

Update: Be wary of the Prowler, as they have a habit of turning up quotes that seem too good to be true, but here’s what they were floating a few nights ago:

Biden’s other son from his first marriage is scheduled to be deployed to Iraq in early October, an event the Obama campaign has factored heavily into its early October campaign schedule.

“Biden is very well aware that his son’s deployment is going to be a big part of what we do in October. It’s part of our narrative and we’re going to milk it for all it’s worth,” says one of the Obama advisers. “Republicans would do the same.”
