Sweet consensus on the point raised yesterday about whether it’s fair for Billy Jeff to campaign for Hillary (answer: yes) but there’s a split of sorts on whether Hillary’s really trying to win the black vote. MM makes the case that she is, but I’m skeptical. I think what Hillary’s really doing is damage control, knowing that she can’t win among blacks in the primary but also knowing that she can’t afford to alienate them for the general by polarizing the race too obviously by race. See also Kaus’s post on the “ghettoization” of Obama, precisely the sort of thing his post-racial campaign has been designed to avoid but which he may be saddled with whether he likes it or not, especially if South Carolina ends up being close and the media seizes on the “race won it for him!” narrative.
