You Can Protest Republicans, but...Protesters Arrested Outside Schumer's Residence

Democrats love equity, because it means choosing which rules apply to which people.

For years, the Democrats have celebrated protesters harassing conservatives, using bullhorns outside conservative homes at all hours of the night. They encourage people to drive Republicans out of the public square. They piously proclaim that free speech means you can harass any Republican in any manner you like. Remember those protesters outside Amy Comey Barrett's and Brett Kavanaugh's houses?

No biggie.

But do the same to Chuck Schumer? You get arrested. He is the good guy, and he deserves peace and quiet.

It is a mystery, isn't it? Equal justice under the law means different things when it comes to Republicans and Democrats. I wonder why that is?

A Republican "misgenders" a trans person they are a Nazi and you can harass them all day, every day. You can shout them down, drive them away from any speech, protests outside their homes with bullhorns, and we are told that this is what democracy looks like.

Annoy Chuck Schumer and out come the truncheons.

Protesters are rampaging around Western cities, college campuses, blocking roads and bridges used by ordinary Americans, and we are told this is A-OK. They don't have permits, they commit violence, they close down airports, and...almost nothing. Perhaps there is a bit of effort to disperse them after long hours, but what are you going to do, right?

When a Republican says "arrest them," we are fascists. When a Democrat says "arrest them," they arrest them

As Senator Chuck Schumer of New York prepared for a final vote to pass an aid package that would provide $26 billion to Israel and billions more to Ukraine and Taiwan, it appeared that at least 100 protesters were arrested after blocking traffic in his Brooklyn neighborhood on the second night of Passover to call for an end to the United States’ military support of Israel.

Though Mr. Schumer, the Democratic majority leader, was in Washington, demonstrators rallied on Tuesday in Grand Army Plaza, one block away from his Brooklyn home, a common site of protests since the onset of the Israel-Hamas war. As the sun set, hundreds of people gathered around a circular banner representing a Seder plate, which included the words “Jews say stop arming Israel” alongside images of foods eaten during the Seder meal.

Schumer was in Washington, but that didn't matter. He lives in a shi-shi area and you can't disturb his neighbors, who almost to a person are wealthy Democrats. Wealthy, well-connected Democrats

Stefanie Fox, executive director of Jewish Voice for Peace, said the protest was held during Passover in order to send a message to Mr. Schumer as the Senate moved toward a final vote on aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan. Roughly $9 billion of that $95 billion package is dedicated to “worldwide humanitarian aid,” including for civilians in Gaza. (The package later passed in a 79-to-18 vote.)

“Everything in our tradition compels us to bring everything we have to stopping these historic atrocities being done in our names and with our tax dollars,” Ms. Fox said in an interview on Monday.

Sending a message to Schumer is what they are doing. Schumer and his cronies in New York City sent one back: go protest Republicans. We are above reproach.

Now I am all for arresting these people. They were blocking the road. They weren't permitted to protest then and there. They are thugs taking over a city.

It just would be nice if the same rules applied to everybody.

They never will.
