Yuma, Arizona is at its breaking point

Yuma, Arizona is at its breaking point because of the Biden border crisis. The increased flow of illegal migrants entering the area is overwhelming the city’s hospitals and food banks.

Yuma is the latest city left to cope with the consequences of the unsecured southern border. Yuma County Supervisor Jonathan Lines blames the Biden administration for its handling of the border crisis. He said Yuma County will crumble because it cannot keep up with the flow of migrants. About 5 million migrants have crossed over the southern border since January 2021 when Biden took office. Many border communities are left to struggle on their own while Biden gives them the back of his hand and ignores pleas to secure the border. I wonder if Arizona will receive more attention now that a Democrat governor is in place.

Mr. Lines told Fox News: ‘Policies need to be changed when you see an unprecedented amount of people coming across the border that even supersedes what we saw under any of the other presidents for the past 30 years.’

He called the surging increase in crossings ‘ridiculous’.

‘They’re coming because they said that Biden told them to come, that we have an open border.’

Yuma is known as the ‘sunniest city on Earth’, but over recent years it has become known as the US’ hotspot for migrant crossings that has stretched its Border Control to the limit.

The county has been sounding the alarm since the increase in migrant crossing began between 2021 and 2022. At that time, Yuma County’s Border Patrol saw a 171% increase in migrant crossings. He warned it would only get worse, and that is precisely what has happened.

Yuma has a population of 100,000. The city sees 6,000 migrants illegally crossing its border every week. That totals up to more than half a million people in the past few years. Of those 6,000 migrants weekly, there are 1,000 to 2,000 “gotaways.” The area has been an illegal immigration flashpoint for years. It currently ranks third in migrant apprehensions behind El Paso and Del Rio, Texas. One resident and farmer is particularly concerned now because he says a couple of big waves are coming and Yuma will be overwhelmed.

Yuma Mayor Douglas Nicholls said that migrants are attracted to the area because of the relative ease of crossing the border. There are 50 breaks in the border wall along the 126-mile Yuma sector. Former Governor Doug Ducey set up huge shipping containers along the border to fill in the gaps. The Biden administration sued the state to remove the containers. Biden doesn’t want governors to secure their borders but he doesn’t want to do it, either. To add to the chaos, 1.2 million illegal migrants have escaped the Border Patrol since January 2021.

Like other border counties, Yuma is trying to balance the needs of residents with those of the migrants. Lines said he has invited Biden administration officials, and Biden, to visit the border in Arizona to no avail.

There is only one hospital in Yuma. The medical system is already struggling.

“Let’s talk about the financial impact and the strain that it’s placed on our hospital,” Lines said. “So far, Yuma Medical Center has had over $22 million of unreimbursed expenses specifically for people who are illegally crossing our border.”

“I have received calls from people saying, ‘I had to take my wife to San Diego, I had to take my wife to Phoenix to deliver a baby because there were no more beds at this hospital.’ “

What is a city of only 100,000 residents to do? They’ve asked for federal help. They’ve tried to put up barriers to fill in border wall gaps. This is the responsibility of the federal government. The humanitarian crisis and the national security threat from the Biden border crisis are unacceptable. Yet, we can expect two more years of it as long as Joe Biden is in office. He simply doesn’t care. This is all his doing.
