Authorities said Sandford went to a Trump rally on Saturday at the Treasure Island Casino and approached a Las Vegas police officer to say he wanted an autograph from Trump. The report says Sandford was arrested after grabbing the handle of an officer’s gun in an attempt to remove it…

Sandford told officers he had been planning an assassination for about a year and was convinced he would die in the attempt. He said he also reserved a ticket for a Trump rally in Phoenix, scheduled for later in the day, as a backup.

According to the complaint filed against Sandford, he is a UK citizen who has been in the United States for about 18 months. He lived in Hoboken, NJ and then drove cross country to southern California. He drove from there to Las Vegas last Thursday with the intention of killing Trump.

Last Friday, prior to the rally, Sandford went to a Las Vegas gun range and fired a handgun so he would know how to use it. Asked directly by the FBI why he tried to grab the officer’s weapon, Sandford replied, “To shoot and kill Trump.”

CNN posted video of Sandford’s arrest:
