Time
Hasan had spent six years dealing with the mental wreckage of war at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington and, since July, at Fort Hood’s Darnall Army Medical Center. His own susceptibility to mental problems was likely heightened because he was pretty much a loner: he wasn’t married or in a relationship. After his parents died a decade ago, he seemed to become more religious. Absent close family, he spent much of his time counseling soldiers whose minds and bodies were scarred in combat.

Well, at least until the “those redneck soldiers tormented the guy til he snapped” theme kicks in.

Everyone knows that screaming Allah Akbar as you squeeze the trigger is really just a PTSD cry for help.

Yes, he just shouted Allahu Ackbar because it just happened to come to mind. Islam had nothing to do with it.

John the Libertarian on November 6, 2009 at 5:14 PM
Let’ see, why was he a loner and never married or in a relationhip? Could it be because he kept pushing his religion onto people, and was picky about women (demanding that any potential matches must submit to the full Koran and Islamic faith–such as praying at least 5 times a day).
Nope, can’t go there. OFF-LIMITS, have to be PC about it.
He was a loner because he had PTSD. That’s better.

I’m so relieved to learn the murderous Muslim was an Unhappy Puppy and that makes it all better.
If this attitude is taking over in our nation, perhaps we deserve to be ruled by traitorous, America-hating thugs like Osama Obama.
In truth, it doesn’t matter what allegedly “provoked” Hasan. Nothing justifies the murder of one innocent, much less 13. Any person who crosses any of the well-defined basic lines of civilization — and any religion that encourages/demands such line-crossing — loses the right to exist, IMO.

I think the writer of this article should be quarantined, because he’s been dealing with the mental wreckage that was this murderer, and his susceptibility to mental problems is likely heightened because he is pretty much in an office filled with liberals all day every day.
Patrick S on November 6, 2009 at 5:24 PM
Couldn’t possibly be because he had become a home grown jihadist! He must be immediately forgiven and let off the hook because all this was certainly beyond his control. Is there anything, anything at all that liberals can’t rationalize(except, of course conservatives).

PTSD? What an idiot. Since the dawn of the medical and psychiatric profession these trained individuals have dealt with death, carnage, pain and misery. I’d like this moron to do a little research on how many mental health professionals in our armed forces have gone postal while on the job to bolster his case.

I’m afraid that, due to this man’s radical Islamic nature, he might make use of the ‘taqiyya’ tactic and play along with this PTSD narrative. Because he is a psychiatrist and has knowledge of PTSD symptoms and behaviors, he might actually do a good enough job lying and convince observers that he is not a jihadist. Everyone here knows his true motivations, but the way the media and libs are carrying his water, he might just get away with it…
LeBron on November 6, 2009 at 5:38 PM
If he were a Christian, the article would be all about his nutty right-wing extremism that victimized him and his own victims. Since he’s a Muslim, it has nothing to do with ideology. Instead, it’s all about post-traumatic stress from incidents that never produced trauma for him in the first place.
OneGyT on November 6, 2009 at 5:40 PM
How many of you radical right wing extremists thought to yourselves when the news first broke “Hmmmm, I bet it was a muslim”? Well congrats, you were correct!

katiejane on November 6, 2009 at 5:42 PM
The article says this:
And then says this:
Given the latter, perhaps the writer shouldn’t speculate that the shooter might be upset about treating soldiers putatively “killing members of his own faith.” Indeed, such speculation says more about the writer than the shooter.

Gotta love Time and their analysis.
Try this on. He as a coward, plain and simple. A Major’s pay is a pretty good living. When it came time for him to stop practicing his job and actually deploy and do his job, he wanted no part of it.
And now he’s a murdering coward. Did it in the wrong place too. First the military, death penalty on the menu without a doubt. Second, if they farm this out to the civilian courts, he’s in Texas, death penalty and put a rush on it is exlusively on the Texas menu.
Hog Wild on November 6, 2009 at 5:47 PM
You heard TIME MAGAZINE. Fire all unmarried military, FBI, ATF, SWAT, ETC. members immediately. They might snap at any moment.
Get a frakking clue, mendacious media-bots. You CAN’T get PTSD if you HAVEN’T GONE THROUGH TRAUMATIC STRESS!!
GAhhhhh…
And to think I once subscribed to this crap.

This makes ZERO SENSE. So, he decides to make New mental wounds of his fellow countrymen, in order to avoid deployment? And what wounds had he been “salving” for the past 6 years!?!? Airmen dealing with the trauma of Diego Garcia? OCD amongst quartermasters?
Whatever happened to dressing in drag and hoping for a Section 8?

Christien on November 6, 2009 at 6:17 PM
So is this the first case of pre-emptive traumatic disorder? Did he not want those soldiers to endure the tragedy of going overseas? The most trauma this guy had seen was probably during a med school rotation at bethesda or driving the beltway in DC. I heard one talking head say this is symptomatic of a stressed military. The hell you say. You mean the one who drinks lattes at Walter Reed or had a 0830-1500 clinic schedule every day but Thursday? The one who has to run 2 miles and do a few situps and pushups twice a year military? Is that the one? Because that’s the life of this “stressed” doc. He may have had to hear a few war stories and that may have rattled him, but “stressed” he was not–unless you count the stress between the contract his ass signed for med school, residency, fellowship, AND the PAYBACK that comes along with it–as well as the ideological rift between his beliefs and the STATED MISSION of this country that happens to be with similar jerkoffs such as himself who can’t seem to see past their Koran.
Hasan–you’re going to heal, be confined to a wheelchair, sent to Leavenworth for the rest of your pitiful life and THAT’s when the deployment starts jack. Those folks in Leavenworth may be prisoners, but mass murderers of fellow soldiers they aren’t–and you may have your tires kicked out from under you a few times here and there, and then ask yourself, “Do I feel lucky?” Well, do you punk?

I thought he was suffering from pre-PTSD. That’s what parasitical cowards do after taking $500 large in taxpayers money and repaying the taxpayers by killing innocent soldiers. This bastard should suffer an excruciating death. Bury him up to his neck within a nest of army ants. The ants should skeletonize him in a few days, or so.
