And the last movie you saw?
Now, movies I’ve been doing OK [with] because it turns out we got this nice theater on the ground floor of my house … So Star Trek, we saw this weekend, which I thought was good. Everybody was saying I was Spock, so I figured I should check it out and—[the president makes the Vulcan salute with his hand].
Very good.
Yes, absolutely.

Not that I can recall…..
Agreed. it is horrid.

I don’t know but George Washington once called himself “a citizen of the world”. Now perhaps when Obama said it he meant it in a different sense than Washington (it wouldn’t surprise me) but that was never properly explained so the phony controversy over the use of that phrase went nowhere.
aengus on May 16, 2009 at 10:34 PM
Probably not, but this is ObamaSpockJesus we’re talking about.
ddrintn on May 16, 2009 at 10:34 PM
He could say “I’m a citizen of Xeldron 9b in a galaxy far, far away” and the controversy would have gone nowhere.
ddrintn on May 16, 2009 at 10:37 PM
Not that I recall, however Harry Truman created quite a stink when he declared the 150yo house a wreck. He had them gut it and bring it up to New Deal standards. Maybe Barry will put in Kirk’s bridge to replace the Oval Office.

As far as his being “Spock”, yeah, when Marxism is considered logical maybe that will be true. Rand is way more Spock-like than Mr. Class Warrior and I don’t even really like Rand.

So, it wasn’t Marx and Alinsky driving his political philosophy after all — it was a campy science fiction series that he watched when he was 10 years old.

If you’re saying that Obama can basically do anything he likes while facing no opposition then I disagree. The tea parties are evidence that a certain amount of responsible Americans have a healthy loathing of debt. I just don’t think that phony outrage over Djoin mustard or whatever is likely to be taken seriously. Seizing on trivialities is a waste of time and effort.

Talk about illogical. Obama as Spock? Since when did Spock need a teleprompter? “Uh, the needs of the, uh, one, outweigh, uh, the needs…”

AZfederalist on May 16, 2009 at 11:04 PM
Star Trek reruns have been shown continuously since the series originally aired. Obama could have watched the show in any decade.

First thing I tripped over too. Don’t recall that phrase ever being used by any other prez. Certainly not by Bush II, aka the guy who wouldn’t even allow anyone, including himself, to step into what he clearly regarded as the hallowed ground of the Oval Office w/o a suit jacket.
Anyway, certainly adds to our current president’s reputation as “the arrogator.”
inviolet on May 16, 2009 at 11:53 PM
Just reading the clip at the top, I at first didn’t know what he meant by “my house.”
Jest or no, he needs to understand that it is not his house; it is our house.
However, this general principle – not just the house – is exactly what escapes him.

Anybody who does not see this attitude as evidence of a major problem is politically tone deaf. The White House is the people’s house and does not belong to any occupant.
Why didn’t Newsweek notice this? Actually, thank God they didn’t so that they printed it instead of spiking it.

Reminds me of an article I read shortly after the inauguration (in the WaPo, IIRC), in which Michelle Obama was quoted as having told the Obamas’ visiting relatives and friends not to destroy furnishings, decorations, etc., in the White House.
What kind of people have to be instructed not to destroy your home — especially when “your” home isn’t your home at all, but a national historical monument in which you’re merely temporary occupants?

Obama’s ego is so big it should apply for its own statehood. That would make it the 58th state, wouldn’t it, “Mr.Spock?”

In the movie, Spock screws up and let’s the planet Romulus get destroyed, after promising to save it, so the villain Nero goes back in time and destroys Vulcan.

Spock, through incompetence, set in motion a chain of events that led to the destruction of his homeworld. He is an obvious parallel to Obama.

long_cat on May 17, 2009 at 2:18 PM
He did just about all of elementary school in Indonesia. He is, culturally, more an Indonesian than anything else. The MSM glossed over this by saying that he spent a little time in Indonesia, but it was from ages 5 – 10, the formative years. He is, for all intents and purposes, an Indonesian. That’s why his world view is so odd to Americans and why he made such un-American gaffes such as “57 states” that no American would ever make.
