“But the fact of the matter is, what if you have no other choices?”
So there’s no grocery stores in these areas, is that what you’re trying tell me? All these corporationy corporations in their corporate buildings! Next they’ll want to ban trans fat…

I haven’t been through that area in a while, but I’m willing to bet there’s a whole lot of restaurants and non-chain fast food available to residents there.
You just have to speak spanish to order.

Next they’ll make lactose intolerance a hate crime.
So many great things in this article;
“the obesity card” -ha!
claiming you can’t get a salad at a fast food restaurant,
and this:
Advocates see an obvious link to a Health Department study that found that 29 percent of South-Central children are obese, compared with 23 percent countywide.
I would argue it could also be due to the fear of playing outside in South-Central. Repeat after me- correlation does not equal causation.

“You try to get a salad within 20 minutes of our location; it’s virtually impossible,” said Harris-Dawson.
BS!!!! McDonalds has salads as do many other major fast food chains.
Perry quoted research showing that although 16 percent of restaurants in prosperous West LA serve fast food, the same percentage is 45 percent in South LA.
It’s economics, stupid. If the people don’t want organic foods and salads, organic, salady places will not open businesses in their area. There’s no big conspiracy where people got together and said, “Hey! Let’s make poor people fat and unhealthy. Don’t open any salad bars in their area!” There are no salad bars because no one wants a damn salad!!!
Besides, if 45% serve fast food, that means 55% don’t. 55% of the restaurants in the area do not serve fast food and yet, you still can’t find a salad within 20 minutes of that area? Seems to me the problem’s not with fast food, but with people’s appetites.

Salads are overrated. If I wanted to eat grass I’d be a cow.
I don’t know why people pretend that salads are inherently healthy. Half the time people drown them in dressing. And even if the salad isn’t swimming in Ranch, iceberg lettuce is one of the most calorically worthless vegetables in existence. The volume you have to eat to get any benefit is astounding.
The activist group has focused on land use in the economically depressed neighborhoods south of downtown, working to shut 200 liquor stores and a dozen motels on the premise that “nuisance businesses” encourage violence and crime while crowding out wholesome alternatives.
If a Christian group did this people would be screaming about fascism.

At Wendy’s your salad has a base of cubes of ice berg lettuce heart the size of sushi chunks . Why not put raw potato peelings in with the fries?
No one in California cook for themselves?

BS!!!! McDonalds has salads as do many other major fast food chains.
McDonalds has a fruit salad too. And Burger King sells fresh apples sliced up like fries. It’s not like a double whopper with half a pound of bacon is the only thing on the menu.
“I was working in one of these places before: It was french fries, french fries, and french fries, and french fries,” said Tony Dubon, 46. “They ought to offer a grape or something.”
Get off your fat a$$ and buy a grape at the grocery store. No wonder these people are stupid, they’re lazy!!!!

I live right in the area. There are nothing but franchise restaurants there because the main drags are dangerous at night and, sometimes, in the day.
A moratorium would make it worse. Typical socialist thinking.

No, Meric1837 because the same nannies kept Wal Mart out in favor of constantly striking unionionized grocers.

And I bet this guy has never worked graveyard shift at a place that only allots 30 minutes for lunch. La Maison Organique du Fufu doesn’t deliver at 4AM to Bob’s Widgets.

Ding.
Andy, you’re scaring me.
Yeah, I was reading that nonsense about “no grapes” while I was eating fresh fruit I had bought at a grocery store in the exact same area.
It irritates me when people in a land where people have choices about food and the choice to eat all whine about it.
