Stan Lee accused of sexual harassment at 95 (Lee's attorney denies it)

Stan Lee, the co-creator of much of the Marvel universe has been accused of sexual harassment by a nursing company that is caring for him in his home. From the Daily Mail:

The nursing company which employs the women and caters for celebrities and high end clients is now in a legal dispute with icon Lee, has learned…

A source with knowledge of the situation, said: ‘Stan is an old man who has seemingly lost his way.

‘He doesn’t seem to care what people think of him, he’s lost his filter. There has been a stream of young nurses coming to his house in West Hollywood and he has been sexually harassing them. He finds it funny.

‘He walks around naked and is vulgar towards the women, he asks them for oral sex in the shower and wants to be pleasured in his bedroom. He uses the word p***y and f**k in their presence.

‘He’s also very handsy and has groped some of the women, it’s unacceptable behavior, especially from an icon like Stan.’

Lee’s attorney, Tom Lallas, sent the Daily Mail a statement flatly denying the accusations and comparing the story to blackmail. It reads:

Mr. Lee categorically denies these false and despicable allegations and he fully intends to fight to protect his stellar good name and impeccable character.

We are not aware of anyone filing a civil action, or reporting these issues to the police, which for any genuine claim would be the more appropriate way for it to be handled.

Instead, Mr. Lee has received demands to pay money and threats that if he does not do so, the accuser will go to the media.

Mr Lee will not be extorted or blackmailed, and will pay no money to anyone because he has done absolutely nothing wrong.

Lee’s personal fortune is said to be around $50 million so there’s plenty of money for someone to go after. The fact that there are apparently multiple complaints from several different nurses makes this hard to dismiss this as one disgruntled (or money seeking) employee. However, a new nursing company has since taken over helping Lee in his home. A spokesman for that company told the Daily Mail Lee has been “polite, kind and respectful.”

The whole thing is reminiscent of stories that broke late last year about former President George H.W. Bush. Over several weeks at least 8 women came forward to say Bush had groped them during various photo shoots over the years. Most of those allegations happened in the past decade when Bush was in his 80s and 90s. However, at least one allegation dated back to his time as President.

Lee’s personal life was always presented to the public as a happy one. He was married to Joan Lee whom he first met when he was set up on a blind date with another woman. When he arrived for the date, Joan answered the door and Stan asked her out to lunch instead. Joan Lee died last summer at the age of 93 (some stories say 95). She and Stan had been married for 69 years.
