So far, Reid has done nothing to provoke Sandoval. (That’s intentional, but perhaps surprising for the occasionally undisciplined Reid.) And in fact the majority leader has gone out of his way to cultivate a cordial relationship. But is it a good relationship?

“I guess it’s how you define a ‘good relationship’” Sandoval told me, saying he and Reid had worked together on renewable energy projects and other issues. “We have a good relationship on trying to improve Nevada.”

Reid has praised Sandoval, and when problems cropped up at a Las Vegas mental health facility accused of dumping patients, the majority leader said, “You can’t blame this on Sandoval,” even as the Democratic Party he controls was sending out blistering releases about “Sandovalcare.”

That is consummate Harry Reid.
