I watched it last night, and here’s my surprising verdict — one that runs counter to the pans I’m reading all across the web:

Eliot Spitzer was made to do this. He offered the kind of natural and effortless commentary and insight that CNN desperately needs. He was smart, decisive, engaging and — dare I say it — likable.

His opening argument, in which he called on President Obama to fire Treasury secretary Tim Geithner, was right in his wheelhouse and delivered with the kind of punchy one-liners and substantive criticism that is more often seen on MSNBC and FOX. He was self-effacing and generous, but also nuanced. Is that allowed on cable talk?
