What’s more, many locals are hailing Costner’s solution — a device that purportedly filters oil from water — as a possible 11th-hour rescue plan. Costner got into the oil cleanup business courtesy of his brother, who developed the machine in question with a team of fellow scientists. Costner and his business partners at Ocean Therapy Solutions have been giving demonstrations of the device in the South Louisiana area. Costner describes the machine as “robust. Works at the speed that someone talked about, 200,000 gallons a minute. But it takes 99 percent of the oil.”
