The tie between Haiti relief and the Coakley campaign, for Clinton, is “good governance.” It’s not clear whether Clinton meant that a victory for Brown would mean the decline of good governance in Massachusetts, or whether he meant that if the Democrat Coakley is elected, she would support more U.S. aid to build a “modern, humane state” in Haiti. In any event, Clinton claimed the two issues are entirely connected and said he did not see his time on the stump in Massachusetts as time away from the Haiti effort.
