GOP: Yes, we'll have an issue agenda for the midterms

Despite some rhetorical bumps in the road, GOP leaders are slowly translating ideas from the grass-roots America Speaking Out program into a specific policy platform, to be released in September. On the America Speaking Out website, some of the leading ideas for job creation are outside the political mainstream, including elimination of minimum-wage laws and deportation of all illegal immigrants. Steps for increased legislative transparency — including Minority Leader John Boehner’s call for three days in which the public can read a bill online before the House votes — will require more discipline by committees and coordination with the rank and file.

In addition to highlighting actions they might take if they win House control, GOP leaders are eager to remind voters that they have offered alternatives to most of the major Democratic initiatives during this Congress. These “solutions” are listed on the House GOP’s website.
