Interview: Senator Orrin Hatch

Before Sarah Palin blew the roof off of the Xcel Energy Center last night with her acceptance speech, I had an opportunity to speak to Senator Orrin Hatch on Radio Row yesterday. I started off asking about the excitement level of the convention, which may have been high enough when I asked it, but will almost certainly jump off the scale today. Hatch addressed some of the criticisms Palin had received over the last few days:

Hatch called Biden and Obama his friends and “nice people”, but stressed the hard-Left direction of the Democratic ticket. He also agreed that the attacks on Palin would backfire, heightening interest and getting people to tune in out of curiosity. If that’s true, and I think it probably was, the backfire will be historic. They practically served as her publicist.

Also, watch Hatch’s face when I ask about the experience level of John Edwards when John Kerry picked him as running mate. Hatch takes the ball and runs with it in comparing his treatment by the media this year to the treatment Palin received — and Clinton received.
