I’m going to give you two links. Don’t read either story shortly after eating. Like swimming, give yourself a good half hour or so before diving in.
First link: The Christian Science Monitor publishes a hagiography of AZ Gov. Janet Naplolitano. The story contains absolutely no criticism of the governor, but does point out that a liberal Democrat is having success in “Goldwater country.” Here’s my favorite line, which isn’t about Napolitano per se but is another of those “tells” like the Bill Richardson/Berlin Wall line.
Her success as a moderate mirrors the changing demographics in Arizona. Once a magnet for Midwesterners, which shifted its politics to the right, Arizona over the past two decades has seen an influx of many more immigrants from Latin America as well as Californians, who have liberalized the political climate.
And that’s why open borders types on the left favor open borders: They didn’t like the voting public, so they went and got a new one. And Goldwater country is no more. But read the whole piece to get the full extolation of Napolitano:
Her memory, like her intellect, is legendary.
You will never, ever see a line like that about, say, Newt Gingrich or any other conservative to whom it applies. You just won’t see it, at least not without the next line casting those qualities in a dark light: “And because of that, his grudges lasted decades, and the revenge he took on his enemies was always creative.”
Second link: The Washington Post’s Robin Givhan waxes poetic on Hillary Clinton’s cleavage.
There was cleavage on display Wednesday afternoon on C-SPAN2. It belonged to Sen. Hillary Clinton.
She was talking on the Senate floor about the burdensome cost of higher education. She was wearing a rose-colored blazer over a black top. The neckline sat low on her chest and had a subtle V-shape. The cleavage registered after only a quick glance. No scrunch-faced scrutiny was necessary. There wasn’t an unseemly amount of cleavage showing, but there it was. Undeniable…
With Clinton, there was the sense that you were catching a surreptitious glimpse at something private. You were intruding — being a voyeur. Showing cleavage is a request to be engaged in a particular way. It doesn’t necessarily mean that a woman is asking to be objectified, but it does suggest a certain confidence and physical ease. It means that a woman is content being perceived as a sexual person in addition to being seen as someone who is intelligent, authoritative, witty and whatever else might define her personality. It also means that she feels that all those other characteristics are so apparent and undeniable, that they will not be overshadowed.
Whatever. I don’t want to hear about Sen. Clinton’s cleavage. I just don’t. And if HRC were a Republican, she’d undoubtedly be getting the Jeri Thompson or Wendy Vitter treatment. But she’s a Democrat, so we get hack poetry paying homage to her boobs.
Besides that, isn’t Givhan straining just a tad? The screenshot that accompanies Givhan’s story is hardly “undeniable” in the cleavage department.
