Riiiight. The proposal comes from an Iranian “academician.” He does not propose to start promoting peace by, you know, removing the bellicose government of his own country. Or de-funding the Saudi-bankrolled madrassahs that teach Wahhabi hate worldwide. Or taking down Hezbollah, Hamas and other Tehran-backed terrorist outfits. Or stopping Iran’s and Syria’s meddling in Iraq.

Muslim states should create an Islamic Peace Organisation (IPO) to end the violence that plagues too much of the Muslim world, an Iranian academician said Wednesday.

Dr Muhammad Legenhausen, a lecturer of the Imam Khomeini Education and Research Institute, said the IPO could be coordinated through the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

Because, of course, Khomeini the hostage taker was such a peaceful guy. A fuzzball, really.

“The programmes undertaken by the IPO should include conflict transformation and resolution efforts, conciliation and arbitration, recovery and post-traumatic aid and long-term peace building,” he said.

Dr Muhammad made the suggestion in his paper on “Mechanism and Initiatives to Eliminate Extremism, Terrorism, Criminal Violence and War” in the two-day international conference on “The Role of Islamic States in a Globalised World” which ended here Wednesday.

He said Islamic states in this globalised world needed to cooperate to form a civilian peace service comprising Muslim clerics, diplomats and other Muslim men and women trained in conflict transformation.

Muslim clerics, huh. Like Hassan Nasrallah and Moqtada al-Sadr? Well what on earth could go wrong with that?

Meanwhile, peaceful Iran is parading the Americans it detained for no reason on TV and threatening Bahrain with a Kuwait-style “you always belonged to us anyway” seizure.
