Monica Crowley will not be joining the Trump administration

Last month, Fox News contributor Monica Crowley was selected by the Trump transition team to be director of strategic communications for the National Security Council. Today, Crowley announced she will not be joining the administration. From the Washington Times:

“After much reflection I have decided to remain in New York to pursue other opportunities and will not be taking a position in the incoming administration,” she said in a statement. “I greatly appreciate being asked to be part of President-elect Trump’s team and I will continue to enthusiastically support him and his agenda for American renewal.”

General Mike Flynn, for whom Crowley was going to work, put out a statement saying, “The NSC will miss the opportunity to have Monica Crowley as part of our team. We wish her all the best in her future.”

Crowley’s position became tenuous when CNN published a story citing 50 instances of plagiarism in her bestselling book “What the (Bleep) Just Happened?” At the time, the transition stood by Crowley, telling CNN, “Monica’s exceptional insight and thoughtful work on how to turn this country around is exactly why she will be serving in the Administration.”

However the story took another turn a couple days later when Politico reported that portions of Crowley’s Ph.D. dissertation also appeared to have been plagiarized. Then, last week, Harper Collins announced it would halt sales of the book.
